Description

Improve performance with Design Engineering Exhaust Wrap. Wrapping headers and down pipes is an important first step in controlling unwanted under-hood radiant heat. Keeping exhaust gases hotter within the exhaust system helps in decreasing exhaust density and increases exhaust flow. This improves exhaust scavenging resulting in cooler air intake temperatures for an improvement in performance and a gain in horsepower. Design Engineering stainless steel Locking Ties (sold separately) are the perfect way to fasten exhaust wrap for a easy, clean and professional installation. Design Engineering Hi-Temp Silicone Coating Spray (sold separately) is highly recommended for DEI glass fiber wrap to penetrate, seal, protect and prolong the lifespan of exhaust wrap. Note about Titanium Exhaust Systems: DEI does NOT recommend wrapping Titanium exhausts. The alloys used in the production of titanium exhaust systems tend to be thin and are designed to dissipate heat quickly. By wrapping the exhaust, the additional heat can make the titanium alloy turn brittle and prone to premature cracking. DEI recommends using alternatives such as their flexible heat shields when seeking to reduce the heat on titanium exhaust systems.

Used several times over the years the Design Engineering Wraps of different sizes. This time it was for the two exhaust manifolds of the V6 engine in my Jeep. For this kind of application, you will need the narrowest wrap available, as you will have to make some tight and short turns and it is difficult to cover the manifold entirely, due to shape and design. It takes some time until the stinky smell fades away; the closest to engine, the sooner. As you wrap the exhaust pipes further down and away form the engine and the catalytic converter(s), it will take longer (even weeks). So far, I am completely satisfied with the product and with the job that I did. Made the engine compartment quieter and helps the overall exhaust system to warm up faster, reducing also significantly the condensation towards the tail pipe, which will make the pipe and the muffler to last longer. [Condensation starts and accelerates rust and corrosion from inside out]I will buy the wrap(s) as needed for other projects.UPDATE: used a roll of Black 1" wide wrap for another exhaust pipe project. Can tell for sure: if you have some pipes with some tight turns, better go for the narrowest you can find, even if that means you will have to use more of it. The wider wraps are more suitable for long lengths of straight pipe and are a lot more difficult to pull and stretch for a tight coverage.I also prefer the Black wrap, as it already has the coating on it, which will make it last longer. However at the end I applied some Rust-Oleum HIGH HEAT (or Ultra High Heat) specialty paint, designed for grills. In my opinion it does a better job than other brands and it does not start to peel-off later.
