Premium Handmade Jute Area Rug 3' x 5' - SAFAVIEH Natural Fiber Collection Blue/Ivory NF448C - Perfect for Living Room, Bedroom & Boho Home Decor

It may be all natural fiber and thankfully it's made in India (vs China) but the toxic smell of the fiber - and the fact that the care instructions (pictured) say to keep in a well ventilated area - make me question how natural and safe it really is. I'm using the rug as an entry mat and while it hides dirt, its course and fibrous texture give it more of a utility feel rather than cozy and welcoming. Given the choice again, I'd pass on this rug but alas these are the pitfalls of ordering online.This rug went into our living room and only lasted about a year before it had frayed to the point of being a major tripping hazard and not worth keeping. I contacted the manufacturer and they said the following (wish they'd made this clear in the description before I wasted my money):"Thank you for reaching out to Safavieh. In regards to your inquiry, the rug shown in the photo is hand woven and very delicate. Since this is very delicate, and some pulls / sprouting can happen in a short period of time. Even with very light traffic, pulls generally happen."I was really excited about this rug, but sadly it will be returned. It is a very loose weave which will be difficult to clean/maintain. Also, there is no latex backing. It has a loose weave sisal backing which will certainly shed. The product description also indicates there is a cotton border. There isn't one. The border doesn't appear in the photo so I wasn't expecting it. In short, it's pretty to look at, but not suitable for everyday living.Love the color but quality is awful. We’ve had the rug for about 6 months and the weaves are coming unraveled. The material sheds and I can’t sit on it without being covered in it the threds. Really love the way the rug looks but definitely wish I would have gone with a different material. It’s itchy, rough and falling apart.These are a lot darker than they appear online, but was perfect for what I wanted. Have had for several months now--the ends on the one by the front door are fraying a bit. Also these shed quite a bit. Definitely get a rug pad to put beneath them.I was so excited to receive these, I ordered 2 for a very long hallway. But - the rug feels like you are walking on human hairballs. The fibers get stuck on your feet like a strand of hair. I've owned many natural fibers rugs and never had one feel like this. Sending back to exchange for the tried and true jute rug.One of the risks of buying such things on line... The cyber version of color and the actual thing often don't match....Great look but a bit thin and too many loose fibers. Great bang for the buck
