Boards are made from 100% natural pine wood fiber, free from chemicals, VOCs, and glue.STEICO Underlayment is made in Europe and has decades of history in both residential and commercial applications. Wood fiber has been used to manufacture underlayment for wood floors worldwide for over 50 years and by STEICO for over 30 years. The popularity of wood fiber-based materials emerges from decades of experience in innovative engineering, using wood's natural properties, including its high-quality insulation properties, vapor open “breathing” quality, durability, and convenience of installation. Please see more of the product's features below. Enjoy quality floor protection designed by nature Save time and effort Experience easy, fast, DIY-friendly and comfortable installation. To cut unwanted material off, or to cut the material to overcome pipes or corners, there is no need for any complicated cutting tools. All the installer needs is a simple commonly available sharp object such as a nail, a knife, a ruler, a screwdriver, or any sharp object available in any home. Suitable for floating or nail down type of installation. No glue needed; Small pieces of adhesive tape can be used to connect the wood underlayment sheets with each other; May be installed in multiple layers; Comes in two thicknesses: 1/8" and 1/4". 1/8" can be used with heated floors systems Benefit from the properties of the natural material Wood fiber does not lose its shape or qualities over time, making it a great long-term investment Fibers are bound together by “Lignin”, which is a wood resin that is secreted in the process of milling wood and acts as a binding agent of the wood fibers; a natural glue. This substance is responsible for the durability and sturdiness of the boards. A very precise proportion of Lignin and fiber length is required to produce a high-quality product made from wood fibers. Only Pine and Spruce are suitable for this purpose. Comes in 2x3 ft boards, light and easy to handle; Premium natural soundproof and acoustic improving wood fiber underlayment for sound reduction and quieter living; Only wood fibers! VOCs, formaldehyde, glue, toxic emissions free; Compensates on minor unevenness, easy leveling. Compression resistance for no squeaking and click-lock system protection; Unique Vapor Open System - it is a breathable material; Shades of green may vary, does not affect properties of the product; To reduce dust while working, fully open the package and lift the boards out instead of pulling them from the top, which can cause fiber boards to rub against each other; Small occasional dark spots on the boards are dried water droplets with minor production residue, it does not affect the board's properties. Quite and comfortable living Sound insulation and acoustic improvement: It can be used as additional sound insulation for walls or ceilings (a 1/8" thickness is recommended) Not intended as a finished material; Both 3 mm and 6 mm offer similar soundproofing properties; Please note that sound insulation can perform better or worse when combined with different types of materials. Incredible sound insulating properties on a minimum thickness Intertek Tested: STEICO Underlayment Meets ASTM E 90, E 492, and E 2179 Soundproofing Standards in the U.S. STEICO boards were evaluated on a 152 mm (6”) concrete slab without a drop ceiling or additional materials aside from the finished floor (please find specifications and test results in the downloadable section). This is one of the strictest sound insulation tests available, and only a few products can achieve an STC rating of 50 dB or higher under these conditions; It offers homeowners a more realistic understanding of what to expect, considering the varying levels of insulation and different materials used between floors in their homes; The Delta IIC rating helps homeowners see how the product works independently, without anything extra. Versatile product for various needs, made in Europe Quality sound control and acoustic padding The high density of the wood fiber natural insulation means that it is also very effective at reducing both airborne sound like talking, music, traffic noise, and impact sound such as footstep, moving furniture, rain noise through walls, floors, etc. High compression strength Ability to hold pressure and not being "foamy", ensures that floor would not squeak at the joints. Underlayment should be solid and flexible rather than soft and elastic. It prevents "floating" and "springy" effect when walking, keeps the floors hard and sturdy under your feet. It also protects locks from breaking and extends the lifespan of your wood floor. Compensates on minor unevenness in the concrete Being somewhat flexible, but not soft, the Underlayment “coats” the bulges in the concrete on it’s bottom layer, remaining hard and sturdy on it’s top. Improve, speed and ease up your installation process. Installation that meets your needs Implement solutions that work best for you. May be installed in two or more layers to raise up the level (if needed). Suitable for a wood and concrete subfloors, may be installed over tile (rigid and secured). More features Compression resistance & leveling: STEICO underlayment is stored as multiple pallets stacked on top of each other and doesn't lose its thickness or shape over time. The boards have a compression strength of 21.32 PSI. Once installed under flooring planks on a rigid subfloor, they can withstand traffic and pressure. Quick & easy subfloor height elevation: STEICO underlayment may be used in multiple layers. Thicknesses and different materials can be used for tailored solutions. Due to their fibrous structure, STEICO boards can be practical tools for smoothing minor flooring imperfections or height elevations. Mix & match the height: Great alternative for long drying and complicated "wet" leveling processes! Mix and match the height you need. Vapor Open and air quality regulation Wood fibers, like natural hair and wool, are hollow inside, which allows the internal capillaries to conduct water and air through the fibers. This process is responsible for the incredible heat and sound insulating properties of wood fiber materials, as well as their Water Vapor Open feature. Wood is a "breathable material" that allows airflow to circulate and adapt to changing moisture levels in the air in the space where it is installed. It can retain moisture up to 20%- 25% of its mass. While this occurs, the fibrous material doesn't lose its thermo-physical properties and sound-insulating qualities. Wood fiber underlayment is not a moisture barrier and can be installed with a moisture barrier if needed. R-Value of STEICO underlayment per inch = 2. R-value for 1/8" thickness product is - 0.25, 1/4" thickness product - 0.5.

Increased living comfort Enjoy the superior sound control and acoustic improving properties of the natural fibers. US tested and certified after passing the strictest acoustic tests (6” concrete slab without ceiling assembly) which guarantees optimal sound proofing.

Enhances safety Natural product made of pure wood fiber material without any glue additives. VOC, and other emissions free. The wood is certified per the guidelines of the PEFC. Made in EU using Binder-Lignin (Wood-Tar).

Squeak-free floor High compression strength protects the "click-lock" system of floors, ensures that the floor will not squeak, prevents "springy" effect when walking and increase floor longevity. Can be installed in multiple layers for leveling.

Breathable material “Vapor Open” technology prevents accumulation of moisture under the floor and allows air to circulate. Being a natural and porous material, it can absorb 20% of its weight in water and thus prevent a minor leak from spreading.

I was about to lay 3/8" Engineered Hardwood (Flooret Silvan) directly over tile, considered the Steico product and wondering whether I would need to pre-fill the grout lines (~1/4" wide by 1mm deep - tile is 20 x 20).Sunco (whose support has been fantastic!) of course gave a, honestly not unexpected reply, that their std recommendation would be filling the grout lines (not unreasonable). But while not endorsing per se, they had knowledge of users who had not and it appeared to be working out.I decided to go for it and have done a double layer (staggered pattern) over a 1/8" lower tile level and single level 1/8" (3mm) over the main area tile as per the image above.I did a test - with the 3mm product (only, no plank yet) I aggressively pounded /stamped / jumped/ beat on it above the grout lines and could NOT get them to telegraph even to the bottom side let alone through to the top!So I may get some disagreement from the community here on pre-filling but with my test and the fact that the engineered wood flooring in itself is quite rigid, I had no qualms about going straight over as-is.Image shows an area that had a tile field that was exactly 1/8" below the main tile level: I believe house originally had carpet section there and previous owners filled with a different tile, but not fully flush up to the other tile.So for this section I put one layer of 3mm in to exactly fill that section to its perimeter with the other tile, then a complete layer of additional 3mm over everything. I was careful to stagger the joints so they did not overlap between first and second Steico layers, nor the planking joints. (for the plank it's easy - fraction over 7" wide which is not a factor of 24 or 36, so it will naturally not create any joints over underlayment seams.)It is SUPER easy to work - cuts easily. I personally found scissors a better tool than a Blade. And I wondered if it would be more work than 'roll' type underlay which I have used previously. Actually I found it to be convenient - one row of 2' panels would accommodate 3 rows of plank and I could just lay as much underlayment as I chose to work my way across room (while juggling furniture around)The result underfoot is that it feels great - indeed quiet and comfortable, and that is also borne out when witnessing from level below.I am absolutely delighted by this product and would not hesitate to recommend this product to anyone.
