So there I was minding my own business on a daily 20 mile bike ride when a pickup truck came across the road mid-block and I smashed into it at 15-16 mph. After regaining consciousness as I was being lifted into the ambulance, I caught sight of my road bike looking all crumpled up in the gutter. Long story short, I took the bike to a LBS (local bike shop) and it turned out that the frame was intact, the shifters were just pushed out of whack, and the front wheel was tacoed. The major damage was to the carbon fork I had on the bike and the wheel. So...I replaced the wheel with an identical one from ebay and the ordered this fork. It was easy enough to do the replacement myself with nothing much more than an allen wrench set and a hammer to set the star nut in the steering tube (would have been nice if they had included one with the fork). The other nice thing is that the steerer was uncut which allowed me, with the use of carbon spacers, to raise the height of my handlebars. At 69 years of age and my spine fused from C4 to T1...I don't have as much flexibility as I had 20 years ago. This way I can ride much more upright and comfortably see further down the road. For you young guys, these are aero, light, and cool. For you older guys, it is an opportunity to have something light that allows for adapting our bikes to accommodate our increasing decrepitude ;-). With 36,000 miles under my wheels in the last twenty years or so...I'm just not ready to hang them up and this gave me an extension. I even bought a second one to put on my other bike for the same height adaptation.
